MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES
Menstruation is a part of physical well-being in women but
unfortunately one in every third women is going through menstrual
irregularities ranging from too heavy flow to either scanty or no flow.
Our body works by secreting certain hormones that works on
the organs and regulates monthly cycles.
Monthly cycle ranges from as short as 21 days to as long as
35 days. If there is variation occurs then it must be rule out.
REASONS LINKED TO HEAVY OR LESS MENSTRUAL FLOW
Birth control pills
Poly cystic ovarian syndrome
Too much exercise
Body weight changes (too fat or too thin)
Stress
Thyroid disorders either hypothyroid or hypothyroidism
RULE OUT PREGNANCY
Having no periods or missed periods in this case pregnancy
needs to be ruled out before undergoing any medical treatment.
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE
Gynecologists must be consulted if there is change in the
pattern of menstrual flow either if you are having excessive periods for a
longer period of time or having scanty menses.
Bleeding too much for a longer period of time might be danger
and leads to anemia (low hemoglobin levels).and affects you further.
WHY IT IS HEALTHY TO HAVE REGULAR PERIODS
Likewise other functions of the body, shedding of uterus
lining is under the control of certain hormones so having monthly periods means
that our body is working in correct order.
But the normal rhythm is periods is important.
FURTHER MEDICAL CONDITIONS TO BE EXCLUDED IN CASE OF HEAVY
PERIODS
Uterine fibroids
Uterine polyps
Having an intra-uterine device
Complications of pregnancy
Uterine cancer or cervical cancer
NATURAL REMEDIES TO REGULATE PERIODS
1) Use of unripe papaya for some months can regulate periods.
2) Use of pinch of cinnamon.
3) Turmeric
4) Use of aloe Vera .Consuming this daily before breakfast
can bring periods at normal flow.
5) Exercising and practicing yoga.
NOTE: DO NOT use these remedies during your periods. CONSULT doctor
before using any remedy to rule out any underlying condition which is the
reason for irregular periods.
MYTHYS ABOUT PERIODS
I personally have heard women talking about not to take bath
when they are on their periods as this can decrease the flow.
Well I believe this is a myth and bathing is always good
during periods for personal hygiene.
And hot bath really works to reduce the pain during periods.
HAVING TOO LITTLE OR SCANTY MENSES
There are many reasons of having scanty or little periods
which can be physiological like breast feeding or pathological like poly cystic ovarian disease or thyroid disorders.
ALL the medical conditions needs to be ruled out and be
treated accordingly.
ADDITIONAL MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES
Periods are sometimes accompanied by severe cramps.
Painkillers and taking a hot bath can help to ease the pain.
FREQUENT PERIODS
Having frequent periods in less than 21 days apart also
cannot be neglected.
SPOTTING
Episodes of spotting that occurs between periods can be
alarming and must be ruled out.
CONCLUSION:
As I said earlier menstrual irregularities are getting very
much common these days and needs proper intervention and the cause must be
ruled out.
Proper diet and exercise must be a part of our busy and
stressful life.
