CHILDHOOD OBESITY IT'S CONSEQUENCES AND MANAGEMENT
The occurrence
of childhood obesity is increasing over few years.It has both physical and psychological
impact on his or her life. Obesity is caused by imbalance caloric intake and
caloric utilization. These children are likely to stay obese in their adult
life and can develop various health conditions which can limit their quality of
life and its length.Maintaining a healthy weight is extremely important in
order to avoid health conditions.
CAUSES OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Childhood can be genetic or environmental .But most common is
environmental which includes wrong eating habits, over eating, physical
inactivity
We cannot deny the fact that kids nowadays are highly
addicted to gadgets and they are less physically active. Kids used play in
parks and outdoor games more so at that time childhood obesity was not that
common like today.
Secondly the most important thing that plays a key role is
dietary habits and over eating. Consumption of diet rich in fats and
carbohydrates make it worse and not only junk food has negative impact on child’s
body but also on his brain.
The kids who consume more junk has negative impact on child’s
brain and those kids have less IQ level as compare to the one who take good quality
food.
Other cause of childhood obesity is genetic .obese parents
are likely to have obese kids. Genes play a vital role in gaining weight and
body fat distribution.
CONSEQUENCES OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY
If the child is obese it has negative impact on his physicals
as well as psychological and social health.
Childhood obesity is linked to type 2 diabetes,
cardiovascular diseases, sleep apnea, joint conditions and musculoskeletal
problems.
Other than disease the child has less self-confidence ,self-esteem
and is being abused and neglected not only by outsiders but sometimes from siblings
and even parents themselves which leave a really bad impact on his growing mind
.This is the bitter reality that obese child is being bullied by everyone.
Inability to breathe
Snoring
Feeling tired everyday
Joint pain
Low self-confidence and self esteem
PREVENTION OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Primary prevention is to prevent an overweight child form
getting obese.
Secondary prevention is helping him or her to lose weight if
possible to prevent co morbidity and consequences.
MANAGEMENT OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Prevention of child to get obese is the first line of
treatment which is very crucial to prevent him or her from health conditions.
Childhood obesity is manageable if lifestyle modifications
are to be made.
Keeping a child physically active can make a big change
towards a better life.
Encouraging him or her towards weight loss and diet off
course which cannot be neglected.
Cutting the carbohydrates and low fat food and small frequent
meals will help.
Adding fresh fruits and vegetables and skipping junk food and
fried items will help to lose weight
And motivating the child to lose weight and discussing with
him the negative effects of obesity will also help.
Nothing is impossible if done with true motivation and
consistency .If we encourage our child towards a healthy eating and keeping
them physically active successful weight loss can be achieved which in return
protect him from various diseases and he will be able to live not only a
healthy life but a happy life.
